Under an Umbrella
That canopy of cover - used for insulation to wrap her in warmth, to protect against the force of the wind and its cold. The comfort of that half circle was shown in how it haloed down around her head, nursing it to cut away the chill of the air and all things dripping down wet.
This was not the type of day to wear a hat, Amelia heard herself say, for that just would not do. Today was a time for the umbrella, to share in the circles of colour that danced under those stormy clouds, hiding the sky of blue. Umbrella's are universal she heard herself say, the perfect cover for all. So today, it would provide her with the extra layer, to stay dry for the long walk home. A different roof of cover to protect her thoughts from the books she'd read inside. She gripped the handle tighter to conceal the contents of what she had taken from the library, determined to get home and unfold its pages by the warmth of the fire.
